How To Write a Successful Blog.
By: Rodney Hamm
When writing a blog (web log) here are four key points to keep in mind:
1. Your purpose
Why are you even taking the time to write a blog anyway?
Knowing the purpose of your blog before hand will allow you keep your
writing on course. Example: If I wanted to write a blog about "Megan's Law"
(US laws that require local police to release registered sex offender
information) I wouldn’t spend my time telling you about rare white killer
whales. If however I wanted to make money from my blog I'd figure a way to
cleverly work the two aforementioned subjects together in the same article.
i.e Google Trends + Blogs = Money.
2. Your audience
When writing a blog it always pays off to target your audience. If your audience is art loving fashion fans then write about Vera Wang's Spring 2008 collection "Simply Vera" When choosing your audience, also remember that the internet is WIDE and VAST; anybody can read your work. If you're not comfortable reading your blog aloud to 100 million of your closest friends, family, and total strangers, DON'T POST IT!
3. Your subject
What are you actually writing about?
This question is more focused version of the previous two; this is literally
a list of blogged about topics. Example: In this blog I'm writing about the
following things: Megan's Law, rare white killer whales, Vera Wang's 2008
spring collection, and blogging.
4. Your content
Where are you getting your information?
A good blogger is more like a journalist then anything else. Whether it's
the latest news about another hacker's manifesto, or breaking video about a
disassembled microwave; people have to know. I'm only half serious about
that statement. Honestly, just be able to back up your words with some
semblance of facts. (Even if all you did was glace at Google Trends and
pulled four key points out of thin air. Hey, the "ether" is a viable source
for facts ...right???
